Where can I find the flat irons shown in this ad that have teeth in them? It waould seem that they would not only straighten th hair but detangle it as well.

I'm happy to have come across this about growing black women's hair. I've had bad stylist, bad relaxers, product that would grow my hair, but the smell was out of this world. Then I found something that would grow my hair nicely, but now I'm on medicine that makes my hair dry & brittle & is taking my hair out. I do use moisturizing hair lotion but it doesn't last all day..What can I do to help...

I have a thyroid problem and my hair is very thin. I am looking for a salon in the Washington DC area where I can get a lace front weave. I wear a weave but do not like the "cone" in the top of my head.

Eugene, What salon(s) do you work in? I live in NY and would like to either go to him or a comparable stylist (based on his recommendation).

I only go to the hair salon for trims and relaxers and rest I do on my own. I had problems with breakage and I started using essential oils such as coconut oil, caster oil, almond oil, etc and it works wonders. Yes I agree that we need to give our hair a break from braids and weaves, it stresses the hair out when done too often. I also wait 4 months before getting a new relaxer.

Why not just make your own mixture of moisturizer yourself and apply it to your hair. Avoid anything that has petroleum jelly, mineral oil, vegtable oil, and several different acids which strips your hair of it's Ph. Use 100% pure Virgin Olive Oil with a drop of your favorite essential oil of your choice with some Aloe Vera blended into a cream formula. Pour into a jar and store it in the fridge. If you want to add some rosemary oil or bergamont that is fine and a little mint oil will help stimulate the scalp. You can use this under the dryer with a plastic cap to let it penetrate your haif and scalp. Your haif will be soft afterwards and manageable.

I know for some women esp. during these economic times it's hard to get to a professional hair stylist for hair services. I wanted to advise a really good product line that you can buy from your local supercenter or drug store. I usually don't advise any "non-professional" products, I use Avlon and Mizani products, but Vive Pro Hyda-gloss Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner are excellent! Not to be confused with Pantene (which i dont think penetrates the hair shaft at all!) This product is made by L'OREAL and is in a yellow/goldish bottle. The very dry/ damaged formula is preferred for our hair because we can never have too much moisture! Try it i promise you will notice a huge difference! If in ATL ck me out www_myspace_com/rx4hair

Please forgive me now if this has already been mentioned but it would be nice if Essence showcase natural hairstyles more often. Yes, more sisters have chemically processed hair but for those of use who opt out of chemicals such perms and softners need some support as well. I personally have locks in which I have been growing for almost two years and even I have trouble taking care of my natuaral hair. Products, maintenance tips, hairstyles, and even haitstylists would be greatly appreciated.
