I have been wearing my hair natural for about four years and I have recently started wear a weave. Although the weave looks great it is very expensive, I want to start wearing my own hair, but I don't know where to start. Plus I have no idea as to how to comb my own hair. I have always had someone to do it for me. Any suggestions?

You don't need to go to costly salons to make ur hair grow, you can do it yourself. check out Hairlista dot com This is the one of the websites out there in regards to growing and maintaining ur hair. A stylist can't do anything to ur hair that u can't do yourself. You are the ONLY one who knows what YOUR hair needs.

Eugene and Kimberly Kimble have excellent advice. But for people who's budget is on a budget what products should we use? It would really help if they would keep every income level in mind when suggesting $200 and up products not everyone can afford them!

I agree.... Chi Silk Infusion is a must for sleek hair and Coconut Oil (the real stuff....but it at a reputable grocery) is wonderful!!! I am loyal to both and have hair that all women comment on!!!

(my last comment): To avoid any confusion about my Chi Silk Infusion comment, it's a silicone based product that's only for the hair, not the scalp. The silk molecules in it bond to your hair strands to protect them, particularly for when you do use heat. (However I agree with the other ladies that have stated that you shouldn't use heat often). And, if you must use oil on your scalp, NATURAL oils are best (e.g., real/pure coconut oil, Jamaican Black Castor oil, etc.). Regular hair grease can clog scalp pores/stunt hair growth, etc. And, don't settle for FAKE coconut oil (e.g. coconut scented hair grease). Peace. :)

BostonMaria and I Love LHCF Info!>><< You guys are on point. If you are willing to take the time to care for your hair you will have no need to invest in $200 snake oils and depend on someone else to care for something god given. Who knows your hair more than yourself. The info provided is a start but Quianna can do better she can research the blogs and hair sites like we did and get the truth for free. And I'm sorry Naomi as a reference is reprehensible. Her edges went south years ago a good Professional should have told her that better yet fixed that problem years ago. Peace.

Oh, and why is the before pictures of both of these women so obviously bad? And why is it health hair seems to equate weaves? She has a nice weave, but I would rather see a long-term example of what he has done. (Is this an advertisement?) I would rather see before pics of his clients. (And NOT Naomi Campbell...that's not a great example.)

I agree that being a DIY'er has been the best for my hair. Being broke taught me that I have to learn how to do my own hair and to keep it healthy. I did my own research on the net and found out what I needed to do. It isn't until I devoted myself that things worked for me. Going to a salon isn't the only answer for me and it may not be the answer for others. But hey...people will do what they want to do. And heat is NOT...I repeat NOT anyone's friend. I practically have to douse my hair in heat protectant so that my natural curl comes back when I wash.

...just wanted to add to my earlier comment that regular deep conditioning is important too.

The secret to growing healthy hair is doing your hair yourself! Becoming a DIY'er is important, plus in this economy not everyone can go to a salon every week. I do my own hair and my hair is down my back. You also don't need a $200 oil to make your hair grow. I use olive oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, etc instead of store bought hot oil treatments. I also moisturize my hair on a daily basis. Its really not rocket science! Its consistency and listening to your hair's personal needs. If you want your hair to grow please stop going to a salon! Do a Google search and you'll be surprised at the blogs & websites that will help you.
