'Slow Jam' by Midnight Starr
Remember when scoring a slow drag with the object of your (prolonged) desire was the ultimate high? That one dance could be the beginning of a rare and beautiful love thang as long as the deejay kept the slow jams coming. For the lover in you, ESSENCE.com sets the mood with its top favorite 25 slow jams.

NO MARVYN GAYE? "Let's Get It On", "Sexual Healing"? Lenny Williams? 1nce again, a weak judge panel...not surprised....

Okay. I am going to agree with some of the jams on this list: D'Angelo, Luther, Smokey. Good choices. But what about For The Love of You, The Isleys, If I Should Die Tonight, Marvin Gaye, Sumthin' Summthin' Maxwell, I'm So Proud, Curtis Mayfield or the Main Ingredient, Out on a Limb, Teena Marie Down on My Knees Jonathan Butler or Superstar by Luther Vandross (live from Radio City). I am going to stop now, because I can go on. But the list wasn't bad; it just needs some tweaking. phat58

What happen to "Don't Ask My Neighbors" by the Emotions and "Never Knew Love Like This Before" by Stephanie Mills. But I love "sweet thang" by the one and only Chaka Khan!

Pick any no.1 hit from each and you have your list - New Birth, Isley Brothers, Smokey Robinson, The Emotions, Jackson 5, Gladis Knight, Chaka Khan, EWF, Lenny Williams, The Manhattans (Kiss and Say Goodbye), Sade, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston (honorable mention), Hall and Oates, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Teena Marie, Al Greene, Lionel Ritchie - Diana Ross (separately or together), Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers), Otis Redding, George Benson, Dorothoy Moore (Misty Blue), Sam Cooke, Sweet Thunder (Baby, I Need your Love Today). Of course there are more, but I can remember a slow grind to each of these artist :o)

Great list! Every slow jam I could think of as my favorite was on here, especially "Fortunate" and "7 Days". All the old school songs are a given, as well as Keith Sweat. Only one I would probably add to this list would be "Ready or Not" by After 7. That's the jam!

No Peabo Bryson, Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Stewart, or even Smokey Robinson & the Miracles - ooh ooh baby- don't get me started with this list....

The first 15 songs get a pass.... but the rest of them do not rate for the top "slow jams" of all times.. no offense to any of the artists, but I agree with many of the previous posters the best slow jams no doubt are the older jams that are timeless and make you tingle and want to have drink!! You all know what I'm talking about!! LOL!!!!
