The First Lady continues to be a force in popular culture. Women’s Wear Daily reported yesterday that despite our grim economy, retailer White House/Black Market was able to boost their advertising budget this fall. The reason? WWD attributes the increase to none other than Mrs. Obama. When she wore their $148 print dress on “The View” last year, women flocked to the store and thus sales rapidly rose. In addition, Vogue magazine saw an increase in sales for their March 2009 issue with the First Lady on the cover while most publications in the Conde Nast family saw a decline in single copy sales.
