It's obvious that some folks on here have a hidden agenda that's well...not hidden at all. Thing is, I support your right to have your opinion and so would our First Lady and the man she is married to. It's just ashame that we can't just step back and realize that this here is history wether you voted for the man or not , and that we have a First Lady that represents all the best that America has to offer. I loved the cover by the way.

To TommyA . . .You stated Michelle has never done anything. She grew on Chicago's South Side and became a Princeton and Harvard educated lawyer . . but OK, you feel that's nothing. She's a mom, and before all of this, a working mom who was an executive--OK, again this is nothing. She helped her husband run a successful campaign and become president of the United States--but OK, to you that's nothing. Note that Laura and Barbara did the same for the Bushes--but OK, again, you probably think that's nothing. If you remember, this magazine did feature Condi. Your comment just sounds like jealously and sour grapes.

I am elated with this issue. I am so proud to be a black (female), retired from United States Air Force. The first lady and her Mother are such mentors. Ladies please learn to embrass this awesome opportunity. Thank you Essence.

First Lady is on many fashion magazine here in Britain. I alway buy newspapers and magazines with the Obamas. Can’t wait to purchase this issue of Essence Magazine.

This article truly makes me proud to be an African American Woman. We are so blessed. I'd love to be embraced and accepted by my own daughter just for the mother and person I am. But God is still good. All I can do is put all matters into His hands, and continue in prayer for change, remain an unconditional lover of a beautiful child w/ two great grandsons. To God be the glory. I love the relationship Michelle has w/ her mother. Makes me hopeful! Right on Essence!

Its obvious that both Mrs. Obama & Robinson are classic. But I want to comment on what TommyA wrote... Why are you hating. We finally get a family of color that exhibits to the world that strong black families not only exist but are prevelant in the US, and you use this as a time to bash. Simply for your sake and all the other "haters" out there I hope that not only does Essence continue to promote the Obama's but so does every other magazine in the world, so that maybe through repetition you begin realize the significance of their presence not only to the US but to the World.
