Essence is not supposed to cover these types of families based on the moral or ethical code of who? The readers of Essence are diversified, come from multi-ethnic backgrounds and different family compositions. Yes, they should finally committ and marry however, they appear to be very happy "family". Some of you people are draconian--trying to suck everyone into your big dark hole of misdirected anger, bitterness and just plain unhappiness. It sucks to be you!

Beautiful home! Maybe she doesn't consider herself black because she is Puerto Rican. La La is Nuyorican/Puerto Rican and so are both her parents. Nuyoricans share cultural traits with African-Amercans.

Why do we continue to look for reasons to put people down? There's a lot to be happy about in these pictures so stop hatin' on their lifestyle. Reap and enjoy the blessing in how Carmelo and LaLa choose their lifestyle and raise their son together. Where is your glory, your respect, your appreciation for their commitment to Kiyan and each other. My husband and I are raising three children (my step-children) it took me 11 years before I could say yes but it did not diminish my love and commitment to him and our children. Grow up America and find joy in them sharing their blessing with us. La and Melo keep doing what you're doing and thank you for being a positive example to our youth. Marriage is one aspect of commitment ... doing positive things with your finances, not being on drugs, and actively being in your child's life is what makes a real man and a real woman. I'm one Essense's reader proud that this magazine continues to show diversity and strength.
