Health and Fibroids
True or False: FIBROIDS
They can be uncomfortable, annoying and downright bothersome, but fibroids need to be dealt with as soon as they become a problem. Not sure what they are or if you even have them? We went on a fact-finding mission with Dr. Ronda Snowden, a board-certified OB-GYN practitioner in Lake Success, New York, to ask her to answer some common questions regarding fibroids.
What she says may surprise you.

I had Fibroids and I had the Uterine Fibroids Embolization surgery. I had no kids at the time.. I also had fibroids the size of grapefruits and doctors told me that it would be difficult to carry full term... I lost 15 pounds after the surgery became pregnant and carried her full term..Matter of fact, I was two weeks late. So, please be sure to exercise and take care of yourself and lots of prayers because you too can have a child.P.S I was 34 with no kids.

I am a 35 year old Afro-American woman, I recently found out that I have 5 fibroid tumors located in and around my uteres. I have no children. My doctor has recommended that I receive the depo-lupron shot to shrink the tumors. I have read that there are horrible side effects to this drug. I would receive the shot every 3 months, the cost is $1100.00 per shot, it is not covered by my insurance. Has anyone had this shot? If so how was it? Could you pleae shed some light on this procedure. I am at a crossroads. my options seem bleak. My doctor says either the shot or a hysterectomy. The doctor says that tumor removal is not an option due to location, and that they will eventually grow back. I am in constant pain, bloating, heavy bleeding, and fatigue. Any advice!!!!!

note to Andre'a whose doctors are pessismistic about children post-fibroid removal. She told them she "knows a MAN". Amen Andre'a. I'm 41, had fibroids within and without my womb. I had the creatures removed at age 39. Told pre-surgery to prepare for a hysterectomy and that even if surgery was successful chances for a baby were low. My husband and I told the doctors we have faith in God and will have a children. Thankfully the uterus was saved. Post-surgery we conceived naturally AFTER the doctors again told us there was no longer a chance. She is now a beautiful 8 month old. God is good all the time, Andre'a. Keep the faith.

God designed our bodies to recover from just about anything, so the presence of fibroids signals that something is out of balance. And if that's the case, surgery alone won't fix that balance, which is why for many women they continue to return. I have two large fibroids that I have been living with for four years. I'm on a quest to find a natural treatment to shrink them. So far, other than their presence in my body, I've been able to eliminate virtually all symptoms. I encourage people to read as much as you can about alternative therapies. Don't trust "magic pills" to shrink your fibroids, but think holistically. Continue to share what works for you because that's how we all get better. God's best to you!

It wasn't until my 4th pregnancy that ended in miscarriage that my Dr. discovered my fibroids. I had a myomectomy when was 30. The Dr. found two softball and 4 golfball-sized tumors. He told me after the surgery that it was not probable that I'd ever have bio kids so my husband and I started the adoption process (two darling boys). During the adoption process, I became pregnant. My daughter was born at 32 weeks. So we went from zero to three kids in a matter of a few months! I never tried to get pregnant after my girl was born because the pregnancy was very difficult due to several month of morning sickness - not because of the fibroids. However, the fibroids are back. I am now 40 and weighing my options. By the way, I am caucasion, vegetarian since age 14, heavier now than when the fibroids were first a problem (but not obese). The surgery took me 4 months for healing...the C-Section was a walk in the park compared to the fibroid surgery.

i suffered for years with very, very, heavy periods.hurt so bad i would cry,my nerves so bad i couldn't stand anyone in the room with me.it was horrible.after a bad pap i found out i had fibroids all inside and outside my uterus.had a complete hysterectomy, everything out. woke up a completely different woman.felt normal automatically. was not prepared for the long recovery and ever thing that went along with it. from reading all the posts here I'm glad that my Dr. recommended a hysterectomy.i had already had my children so i agreed at once. living life 100% better in that aspect.

January 2008, my gyn. found a fibroid inside my bladder. The fibroid's embedded at the base of my bladder and urethra -- and is so enmeshed with the muscle wall -- that repeated surgical procedures haven't eliminated the fibroids. No one told me to stop taking bio-identical estrogen till recently. This week, I go see women uro-gyn's who may help me with fibroids, UTI and the vaginal rectocele (collapse) that all this pressing created. I need to eliminate chicken and milk to see if that helps..

If you take bio-idenical progesterone the fibroids shrink, heavy bleading is also a sign you may need progesterone. Look up info on Dr. Hotze in Houston, he has youtube videos I went two years ago, amazing!
