We are ALL black sistas whether light or dark. Whether you wear a weave, perm or natural, BLACK SISTAS you are ALL beautiful. The media should not have any affect on your confidence. Your confidence comes from home. The way you were raised. If your Mom and Dad told you were beautiful growing up, then as an adult you SEE your "Star Player" for who she really is........FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE AND MOST OF ALL BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! Start loving your "Star Players" and stop listening to the media. BE YOU!!!!!

There are some black women who don't want to spend the time or money to maintain a relaxer, there are some women who are afraid to try new things and there are some women who are straight up lazy. I can't tell you how many times I've been the target of negative comments because my parents raised me and my sisters to look beautiful, head to toe, everyday. Some women actually hate that women look good everyday, they make negative comments because they want her to bring herself down so that they don't have to do anything. I refuse to let anyone, male or female, to stop me from looking the way I want to. It's the misery-loves-company scenerio that I refuse to buy into.

Not saying there aren't nice looking light-skinned people, but people have been so indoctrinated that they will say a light-skinned person is pretty knowing full well that person looks like a moose, but see a dark-skinned beautiful person and say, oh, they look alright, or oh, they are pretty to be dark or allowing white people to define beauty for everyone. It's not just blacks. Asian women use skin lighter to get white skin. These white people got everyone messed up. Listen people, white people don't want to be white. They'd rather be orange than white, so stop the madness. Some people are still really messed up behind this slavery thing.

Black women are the cream of the crop. Light, brown, dark, it doesn't matter. We are beautiful and can wear our hair the way we want.

I appears the skin color debate in the African American community will never die, I can not believe in the 21st Century we are still concerned with skin tones, how shallow is our race for even entertaining this nonsense. When it’s all said and done no matter what shade of black you are to every other culture on the planet you are still BLACK.

It is a trick, has anyone ever noticed the black woman in commercials always have short afros or short locks. This is not a true depiction of black women, not every black woman has short hair that looks like an afro or kinky locks. While their is nothing wrong with afros or locks, it's an image the media continues to push because the black woman who looks like Beyonce, or Meagan Good or Nia Long or Sanaa or Gabrielle is to much of a threat to the white woman. So they will continue to show these white women dress to the nines and the lone black woman in the commercial with short hair looking like a dude. Don't fall for the stereotypes. Black people are what makes this world go round, believe it!!!

I can not believe people are actually on this site trying to guilt people into wearing a certain hairstyle. It's ridiculous. I'm grown, and if I want to wear my own hair or a weave down my back, I will. No amount of bullying or pressure will stop me. I for one think that the media doesn't want black women moving away from natural styles because they feel we look much better than they do, so they want to keep black women in afros, locks and braids, styles that make some of us look more masculine. While white people are getting dyed, extensions, nose jobs, boob jobs, butt jobs, wearing orange skin coloring, getting their hair relaxed and straightened. It's a trick that I am not falling for.

Keria your mentality represents the desired result of turning a free man into a slave. Luckily, there aren't many of your kind around anymore, people who are so desparate to continue to be told what to think and how to feel. Regardless of what you say, EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE knows that black is beautiful!!!

It's funny how some people will criticize a black woman for wearing different styles, yet praise a white girl for going from drab brown to blonde, or getting hair extensions or getting their hair straightened. It's a mental sickness. I don't care what anyone says, I will wear whatever style I want. Women, don't get caught up in this fake debate. You are not more black if you wear a natural and locks or less black if you wear a relaxer or weave.

Kiera - you have really fallen for the bamboozle. If you want to get down to it. Many of the light-skinned girls I grew up with ended up with diseases and babies because they were constantly being exploited by men. Most of the so-called "video vixens" are light-skinned, and once again being exploited by men. DL brothers, usually marry light-skinned women because once again, they know that they can exploit them. When it comes down to it, light skinned women are seen as objects to use and step on. Do you feel blessed now?
