2009 Essence Music Festival Begins
The movers and shakers behind the ESSENCE Music Festival gathered for a group picture, which includes president Michelle Ebanks, editor-in-chief Angela Burt-Murray, general manager Joy Collins, mayor Ray C. Nagin, and CNN’s Roland Martin.

It was obvious from the setup that we are in an economic crisis. 1. Where was the welcome booth? Greeters as in years past for newcomers i brought along with me this year?..... 2.FREE Water stations? 3. Where were the FULL printed schedules WITH LOCATIONS OF THE SEMINARS MEANT TO EMPOWER. No clear directions or postings of vendor locations. 4. Sorely disappointed - the gospel sessions except on Friday were held near end of the day's schedule and it was a strain to hear the speakers clearly. 5. Lights were turned off before we all speakers were done. Lisa Ray was wrapping things up and the lights go dimmer. Embarrasing and rude. 6. The food was overpriced- Come on 5 chicken strips and lukewarm fries $8

very disappointed this year, not happy with the schedule and essence needs to take a better look at who they choose as speakers, what could lisa wu hartwell and nene leakes tell a person about empowerment? they are very disgraceful to black women in atlanta. Also, Juanita Bynum she is another one who really needs to literally "sit down" and to say the least if you claim to be saved why are you jumping around on stage like salt of the group salt & pepper, pepper is just who she is no fronting.

I agree. Not having a 3 day schedule of the events was a great dissapointment. I felt like I was traveling without a road map or directions at the convention center. I got there on Friday around noon and all I could find everywhere were Saturday "incomplete" schedules.

I am also disappointed without the printed schedules, nor can I find them posted to print them myself.
