2009 Essence Music Festival Begins

The movers and shakers behind the ESSENCE Music Festival gathered for a group picture, which includes president Michelle Ebanks, editor-in-chief Angela Burt-Murray, general manager Joy Collins, mayor Ray C. Nagin, and CNN’s Roland Martin.

This was my first Essence experience and I truly enjoyed myself. I was disappointed in Maxwell, I left after he sang Fortunate, other than him being L-A-T-E, it was C-O-L-D, like the thermostat was on negative digits. I can't say enough about Charlie Wilson, he's very impressive although Anita Baker talked a little too much, she was good. During their performances the temperature was comfortable. I wanted to go to the after party, but leaving at 2 a.m. - it was out of the question, we were exhausted. I will attend again, but this time I will bring a blanket!!!
