Take our poll on interracial dating »

10yrs ago I dated a white guy for the 1st time. When it was just us it was great, when we would be in the public we would get the comments. People would say things u will be back, what he has money etc. It got so bad I ended the relationship after 9 months. We got bck together I tried harder for sake of relationship. I felt it was easier for him he always dated blk. His mother told us we had to get tough skin if we wanted it to work. Bottom line after 3 yrs we decided to make it permanent. At dinner the waiter refused to bring the ring to the table I was so upset/hurt I knew then I didn’t have the tough skin I would need in order for our relationship to last forever. Even though i'm happily married w/ 2 beautiful daughters. I think about it not being with someone u love because of their skin color. It’s true you never forget your first/true love. It's hard dating outside of your race I know it was for me.

Hey WTF2, You know what it also called for those who chooses to go outside the box! Like someone had commented on earlier GENOCIDE!!! call it what ever you want! Why is it that Essense magazine has to force this issue down our throats it not being talked about in the other mainstream publications! I don't get it!!! Throwing your culture under the bus!!!

Hey wtf, the fact is that this topic repeats because there's debate about this within the AA community. You may be tired of it but many aren't, and they haven't come to grips with it but are trying to. As long as this holds true you're going to keep seeing the articles. It's obvious that seeing black women going out with with white men bothers you (you refer to these women as sisters and not "sistahs," as you say), but one thing you fail to realize is that the world (yes, this includes the AA community) is moving away from the old ways of thinking. We're evolving. This happens through discussion and education and, yes, blogs like this. So get used to it.

Essence great job in throwing your culture under the bus!!! This is one of the main reason I stop purchasing your magazines. Plus I hear it's own by mainstream media so you guys are not for the AA community the way it use to be!! Sure we are now facing new and improve issues of today world pertaining to AA movements and hidden positivity then just these type of articles!!! LET'S HEAR ABOUT IT!!!!

I notice white magazine do not even mention any other race. It's only this white owned magazine that keep bring up mix-race relationship. It's boring............There are mix race relationship website, I am sick of this shi@t for real. It's f@ucking boring. We can't even walk down the street without being killed by a white police I like to discuss big issues like racism. Black people didn't care about people mixing it alway been a white thing. So why don't people or vogue do stories about this issue? Fuc@k Essence it not owned by black people anyway. essence fu@k off with your @!?#$ stories.
Posted at 3:46PM on October 19th 2009 by essence is now ours
This is a white magazine, it's owned by whites. White people have alway been concern about RACE. I am so sick of this subject we have bigger and greater issues facing us I so sick of them control and owning our voices now they want to control our opinions. If someone want to date out of they race I do not think it's a issue or my business. They are mix-race relationship website and blogs, If I was interested in this subject I post there.

this is wild and so unfortunate. black people still looking for validation from white people. if love is truly biind, why is inter-racial dating still being discussed? we are so screwed up. its heartbeaking. black women want everyone to know that their white lover is "good in bed" anybody who has had good sex knows its physical act - so anybody can do it. great sex is wheb 2 people connect on a mental level first. black men say black women are too aggressive and have issues with hygiene. if those gold digging groupies that follow black athletes around are not aggressive - they do what ever it takes - oh maybe thats persistence. and trust me brotha - if she do not wash her hair daily... either way black people need to have more self respect. this is idiotic!!!!

This topic is boring. My answer is simple: lets line all nationalities and races up and have a big orgy. In the end, when we're all mixed, maybe we can all get along and we'll have the best of all cultures. Plus it would be a lot of fun.

I personally date whom I wish...and I think it is up to each person, we all have freedom of choice...I donʻt care who marries who as long as they are happy... it is none of my business or anyones elses...I have a very happy well adjusted interracial daughter ...If we worked harder on our own lives to become happy an give back to society and not worry about who is loving who...this world would be a better place...everything starts with that human revolution when we each get our own lives in order and learn to respect the other person choices because that is just what they are others choices...I say love where you find your love.... nam myoho renge kyo
