I agree with Queena, I think we need to start chosing each other first! (especially black men who seem to chose black women last) It's seems like we a black people desire to be with other race's to gain success. We are taught tha black isn't good enough. We need to start teaching that black is good enough. Inter-racial relationship should not be promoting afterall if we're chose based on love, race shouldn't matter !

To Queena, I find it interesting that you mention Barack Obama in your defense of Black people only marrying other Black folks. People like to forget that Barack Obama is the product of both a White woman and a Black man. If you love Barack, then love both sides of him (the White and the Black side, he seems too). I am married to a White man and we have two beautiful children who like Barack, are African-American and Caucasian. I tell my children to be proud of whom they are and to know that their parents married each other, not because of the color of their skin, but because of what was in their hearts and souls. We as a people need to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and we need to stop being so concerned about the “watering” down of our race. If you know anything about history, you know that most African-Americans in this country have White ancestry.

KUDOS to true love, period..I have been mainly physically abused by an black ex-boyfriend and I am currently being mainly emotionally, and recently physically abused by my white husband...my point, there are bad men in all races. Once I am strong enough and receive the financial help to get out of the marriage I am in now, I will remain to keep my options open. Just next time around, I will allow Jesus to choose for me, because lately, obviously my taste in men suck. And just to throw this out there...Close minded ignoramus' disgust me...I really wish the closed minded ignoramus' could change asap, because you're killing the spirit of this earth God created!

I'm happily married to a black man and I have friends who are happily married to white men. I also have friends who have had bad relationships with white men, black men, and Asian men. Quite frankly, at the end of the day, men are men. My friends and I go through the same triumphs and struggles. I never had a problem with interracial relationships because aren't we all human? My only issue the black community's tendency to oversimplify everything. You've had bad luck with black men and now they're all "dogs"? White men aren't all perfect and black men aren't all bad. Good luck out there. I hope all who are looking find someone who deserves them.

Essence didn't mention the following celebrities who have non-black husbands: Sharon Leal (Soul Man, This Christmas, Why Did I Get Married) Golden Brooks (Girlfriends) Keasha Sharp (Why Did I Get Married) Arthel Neville (TV personality) Heather Hadley (R&B singer)

HB stated:I love him because he UNDERSTANDS me. Can anyone describe him by color, race, or creed? When love is involved, make sure that you are compatible with the man you choose and ensure that you have completely made a committment to the relationship!-----So what if I find all of these qualities in a non-black man? What is your point? You don't make any sense.

Queena-Most of the people in the black community are women and children. The "good black men" have left. They did not want black women. So what do you want black women to do? Stay single. Or better yet, fight over the drug dealers, jobless deadbeats that are left in the community.

Queena- i think you're talking to the wrong group, bm are the ones who have left and should be concerned about the race surviving, we're new at this. Essence thank you for finally acknowledging bw can be in ''other''realtionships and live happy psitive lives.
