Robin Roberts, Wanda Sykes, Nas and Lil Mama are among a host of African-American celebrities who show us that breast cancer doesn't discriminate. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there's no better way to kick it off than to highlight the famous faces who have not only been affected, but have worked tirelessly to create more awareness of the disease.
It was thanks to early detection that Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts is today a breast cancer survivor after being diagnosed in 2007. “Yes, I am living with cancer,” she told PEOPLE. “But don’t go ‘woe is me.’ I don’t want it. Don’t need it. I’m still in the game. I don’t want to say ‘survivor.’ I want to thrive.”
