Joyful. To be President you must be a US citizen. There was controversy over McCain because he was born in Panama. But the courts ruled he was born of US parents and he was a citizen. President-elect Obama was born in Hawaii after it became a state. His mother and father at the time of his birth were US citizens although his father was originally from Kenya. His mother later moved to a foreign country (I think it was Indonesia) and took Barack with her. They returned to the United States. The President-elect has published a copy of his birth certificate on his website. The person in Hawaii responsible for the records says state law doesn't permit the release of the original certificate. Believe me if he wasn't a US citizen, McCain would have dug it up. This is an issue created during the campaign to get people to doubt his legitimacy. He wouldn't have gotten this far if he hadn't been thoroughly vetted.

My Dad passed away in June 1990 and my Mom April 1997. They never thought this day would ever come. I wish they could have seen it. It seems surreal. I am concerned about one thing that I continue to see, President-Elect Obama's birth certificate. Does anyone know what is the deal with this?!! You have a US birth certificate to run for the Presidency. It is being said Obama was possibly not US born?!! How did he get through the race and win without presenting one?!! I am confused.

Wow! I moved from the DFW (Dallas / Fort Worth) area to a town with a population of less than 1,200 (YES! it has been culture shock) My spouse is the police chief. As a young man growning up here in East Texas this is not a job he ever dreamed for nor dreamed possible. He to is a first! He too was raised, loved and disciplined by the village, a mom and father, three aunts, grandmother and a host of others. I am just so proud of the Obama Family and their accomplishments and they have demonstrated you should dream the big dreams. I have always been a dreamer and am so happy with the possibilities. The cover(s) will be framed.

2 years ago I was working at a cafe inside a busy financial building in downtown Chicago. I saw Desiree Rodgers come in and I was excited to have the chance to meet a strong black woman who was the head of the Illinois Lottery and later Nicor Gas. She is not a famous celebrity, but more like a local successful businesswoman. I was star struck. Before I could even finish my statement she didnt look me in the eye, she simply nodded as if I was wasting her time and she just wanted her drink and leave. I was kind of offended because she looked at me like I wanted something from her. In these days of video hoes and unsoulful singers, its hard to find a black woman worth looking up to, and who has made her success by working hard, not shaking her butt. Fortunately, her coldness did not break my spirit, but it drove me to the success I have now as a knitwear designer. Hopefully one day I will be a positive role model for someone and I will be WILLING TO LISTEN!

As a big fan of the comprehensive coverage Essence has provided on issues of concern to African Americans and our families, I am disappointed in your incomplete coverage of President-elect Obama's money team. In the very first slide, you cropped the photo of Melody Barnes, an African American who is slated to be the director of his Domestic Policy Council. Mr. Obama announced her appointment at the same time at the same press conference as the three other individuals you show in the photo. How did such an oversight happen? It's important that your readers see the diversity of talent upon which our new president will be relying. Ms. Barnes is indeed part of the "money team," as she is charged with healthcare reform, a critical part of any economic recovery plan. Come on, Essence -- you're better than the rest. Make sure you cover us accurately and completely.

President elect Obama was elected and ordained by God for this day and time. God is still in control. Mr. Obama is not our saviour. The Lord Jesus Christ is. It's a blessing from God. We as people need to pray for the new president, that every decision he makes is in God,s will and being Godly decisions for this country, and it all won't happen over night or over the next four years. We have to keep Mr, Obama up in prayer along with his family. May God continue to bless Americia.
