as far "lightened skin" anyone can appear lighter or darker depending on some various photographic situations such as LIGHTING-natural or artificial light, time of day, where the light is as oppossed to where the camera is etc. Also if the picture has been enhanced or touched in editing that could very well affect someone's coloring as well as the makeup and clothing the individual is wearing. Most celebrities appear lighter on the red carpet because there are THOUSANDs of lights and flashes going off....jeez ppl try thinking of the obvious BEFORE you start analyzing the sista's psychology.

I agree Rihanna does look lighter now but keep in mind she lived in the Caribbean where it's almost always sunny. I'm from the Caribbean and when you go home especially in the winter, most people will comment on how 'light' you look. So I don't think Rihanna bleached her skin, it 's just the change in environment.

Why all the negative comments about people. If any of you was asked to do what these people are doing, am so damn sure none of you would make it to where they have.So what if Rihana has lightened her skin?Thought everyone has the right to do what makes them happy. stop hating on people...instead be kind,for everyone is fighting some kind of battle!

ummm. skin lightening is not far fetched, remember Michael Jackson. All these artist suck in the singing department but I guess it's not slowing their record sells.

It's funny reading these comments especially the negative ones. For instance the one about Beyonce being obsessed with being an Icon. Have you actually watched an interview with her and heard her say it in every interview? No. It's the tabloid media that says all these things, and really what is the problem with her striving to be an icon, especially as a woman of colour? I think we need to remember this is entertainment and why are we getting mad at these ladies for doing their thing? We need to stop being so divisive and negative. It doesn't help us, in fact we are falling into what the media and some of our society wants us to be. (not supporting one another) Let's be behind the women who are doing the right thing. Also, on the "lightening thing w/ Rihanna; as women of colour and especially being bi-racial we are a few different colors during the year. Or she could just have a bad makeup stylist. Just sayin.

I agree with the previous comment about Beyonce seeming like she is obsessed with being an "Icon" It is understandable that as an artist it is important for her to focus on her career, and hers only because it is about record sales and competition. But it seems like Beyonce does not care to compliment or support other artists. (Besides Jay-Z, of course and her girls Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams). It's like she only wants people focusing on her. I was shocked to learn that she admitted not contacting Jennifer Hudson when she lost her family.You would think she would have sent her flowers or something just to show sympathy and support. Yet she wants everyone to support her "Wack" album.
